The IB Diploma Programme at Audentes
Audentes has been offering high school education in accordance with the IB Diploma Programme since 2011. Since the IB Diploma Programme is for grades 11 and 12, we decided to launch a course (pre-IB) for 10th graders to prepare them.
The IB Diploma Programme is a curriculum that provides high school students with an opportunity to test themselves. The two-year programme ends with examinations in all subjects.
Pre-IB year is for students who have graduated the 9th grade and wish to continue in the IB Diploma programme. Pre-IB prepares students for the Diploma programme, giving them an overview and base for all the IB subjects. This way they will have acquired all the necessary skills and get the best results once they have entered the demanding IB Diploma.
What is so special about IB programmes?
Universities around the world, including world’s leading universities, accept and welcome students with IB Diploma. IB Diploma is also accepted by Estonian universities.
IB encourages positive attitude to learning by encouraging students to think critically, ask challenging questions and be pro-active. It provides students with planning and time management, communication, research and language skills. IB teaches how to learn and understand that there is more to learning than academic studies alone.
The possibility to choose high and standard level subjects gives students the freedom of concentrating on the areas of study that interest them the most. At the same time they also gain in-depth knowledge of the standard level subjects.
The curriculum and pedagogy of IB programmes focus on international perspectives of learning and teaching, while insisting that students fully explore their home culture and language.
IB teachers participate in a wide variety of professional development opportunities to constantly update their knowledge and share their expertise with colleagues around the world.
Teachers in IB are more like colleagues or guides who help the student reach their highest achievements through full understanding of the material. This ensures that students remember the material for a long time.
Many students graduating from the Diploma Programme find that it enhances their opportunities to get into the best universities around the world.
Theory of Knowledge (TOK), Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) and Extended Essay (EE) encourage students to participate in creative and service-oriented activities, while at the same time emphasizing the importance of reflection on a personal and academic level.
