Field trip to Nõmme forest
12.06.2017
On 9th of May Dip 1 and pre-IB classes went to Nõmme forest, to conduct experiments and research in fields of chemistry and biology. The aim of this trip was the learn how to conduct an experiment, to do research.
The day started quite early in the morning. Luckily it was beautiful weather, but quite cold. We hiked about 2 km into the forest, where we formed teams. Then it was fieldwork time. We could measure pH levels, collect water, measure the temperature and collect various samples.
All students had fun, even if it was 2 degrees outside. All together we were several hours in the forest. We were quite tired, even so much that I almost tripped over to the small ditch full of water when I tried to cross it.
When we started to hike back, we also crossed paths with a small viper, who was not happy to see us at all.
But the work did not end with the fieldwork. Afterward, the real work started. We had to write a lab report. I was afraid of it first because it is a technical and long document. But as we began to write it, it turned out to be quite okay and even easy to write.
I am euphoric that we did such kind of project, because doing that and writing the report, helped us to prepare for the following tasks and this kind of assignments.
